Helen E. Henderson, 92, a longtime resident of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at the Crane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crane. She was born October 8, 1910, in Clarendon, Ark., to Henry and Allie Hearon.
Helen attended Draughon's School of Business in Little Rock, Ark., from 1935 to 1936. She entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth January, 1956. She earned a diploma and an associate's degree in religious education from the seminary in May, 1959. She was called to First Baptist Church of Odessa, Texas, January, 1960, as Nursery Director. In September 1967, she began a Day School program in First Baptist Church and First Baptist Mexican Mission. She later became Preschool Director, then Children's Director, working with ages birth through sixth grade. She retired from this position November, 1975.
She married Richard Henderson January 27, 1962 in Odessa.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard Henderson on April 17, 2001; brothers, Willie and, Little Buddy, Hearon; sister, Ruby Hearon.
She is survived by her son, David Hank Emmons of Big Spring; grandson, David Emmons of Austin; and great-grandson, Preston Coy Emmons of Mississippi.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at Odessa Cemetery with Rev. Bill Cook officiating. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2003, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bailey Stone officiating and Rev. Curtis Brewer and Rev. Johnny Young assisting.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
In addition to her family and church she had a love for genealogy and published family histories for her relatives. She gave many of us the histories for the King, Moore, Deaton, and Simpson families located in Monroe Co., Arkansas. I am grateful, MAK
