A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020, at 11AM, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph, with Rev. Dr. Christopher Noffke officiating. Burial will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, March 15, 2020, from 2PM until 4PM at the funeral home. Nola was born on October 1, 1930, to Orville & Verna (Carlock) Teter in Moweaqua, IL. She graduated from Cosmetology school and became a Beautician. She owned and operated Nola’s Beauty Shop for over 60 years before she retired. On October 26, 1946, Nola married the love of her life Harold Thomas in Benton Heights. Nola was a member of the women’s auxiliary for Hartford American Legion. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the North Berrien Senior Center, playing the piano, and working on ceramics in her basement of her beauty shop. She had a passion for reading and birdwatching her favorite birds, Orioles and Hummingbirds. Nola also enjoyed her Friday morning breakfast group at Mill Creek Charlies. Most of all, she loved to spend her time with her family.
Nola is survived by her children, Orville “Neal” (Rose) Thomas of Covert, Diana “Lynn” (Charles) Cartwright of Hartford, Debora (James) Cartwright of Kentucky and daughter-in-law Wanda Thomas; grandchildren, Traci, Robert (Pam), Lori (Tim), Teri (Greg), Jennifer (Boogie), Kerry (Scott), Heidi (Fred), Jodie (Joe), Jeff and Jaymie; 23 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren with two on the way; siblings, Orville “Junior” Teter of Covert, Irene (Ernie) Mensinger of NC, Shirley Certa of Bangor, Joyce Weber of Edwardsburg, and Jeri (Bob) Hayden of IN; and sisters-in-law, Jean Teter and Marian Teter.
Nola was preceded in death by her husband Harold Thomas; parents, Orville & Verna Teter; son Ernest “Arnold” Thomas; and brothers, Paul Teter, Dale Teter and Jack Teter.
