Dorothy Marjorie Lauer, the daughter of Fred Lewis and Minnie Ethel (Clark) Klos, was born on January 15, 1913, in Jasper County near Monroe, Iowa. Dorothy entered eternal rest on November 4, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of ninety-seven years, nine months, and twenty days.

Dorothy graduated from Macksburg High School with the Class of 1932. On June 22, 1932, she married Peter Eugene Lauer in Omaha, Nebraska. Dorothy and Peter lived on a farm near Zion in Adair County. Dorothy was a farm wife and homemaker and she worked very hard helping on the family farm. They were still milking cows in the late 1970's. Dorothy moved to Creston in 1984 and lived there until 2008. Dorothy lived in a nursing home in Ankeny for two and one half years.

Dorothy was a member of the Hill of Zion Church for many years. She enjoyed playing card games and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. She liked to sew, to quilt, and to do different crafts.

Left to cherish Dorothy's memory are her daughter-in-law: Janice Lauer, Greenfield; her six grandchildren: Candice Kitselman, Emporia, KS; James (wife Ann) Lauer, Morton, IL; Nancy (husband Kevin) Schroeder, Urbandale, IA; Joe (wife Angie) Lauer, Ankeny, IA; Sherri (husband Monty) Kramer, Creston; and Marc Lauer, Greenfield; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her nine great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents; her husband, in December, 1984; her two sons: Norman and Kenneth Lauer; her daughter-in-law, Carolyn Lauer; one brother; eight sisters; her grandson, Tom Lauer; and her great-granddaughter, Cassie Kramer.
