Florence E. Abbott, 97, a longtime Adair County resident, was born July 7, 1889, in Adair County to James and Catherine Gilson Black. She married J. C. "Dude" Abbott Dec. 5, 1908. He preceded her in death in 1978 and she lived most of her life in Adair County with the last nine years in Creston.

She was a homemaker and member of the Hill of Zion Church.

Survivors include sons, Art of San Antonio, Texas, and Jack of Creston; daughters Reva Zellweger of Macksburg, Jean Van Pelt of Creston and Ann J. Newton of Winterset; 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lois; two sons, Kenneth and Eldon; two sisters, Stella and Della; and brothers, Oscar and Guy Black.
