Obituary - Thomas J. Allen

Thomas Jefferson Allen was born in Scott township, Madison county on what was known as the William Allen farm, July 29, 1857 and died in New Virginia, Iowa, July 25, 1913, age 55 years, 11 months and 26 days. He remained at the home of his parents until he was 21 years of age.

He was married to Miss Clara I. Ray, Feb. 3, 1878. To this union was born four children, all of whom, but one, survive him. Little Margaret preceeded him to the better land dying at the age of six. Those surviving him are Ernest N. of New Virginia, Roy R. of Scott township, and Mable H. Smith of South township, Madison county.

His wife died April 25, 1892. He was married to Sarah A. Robinson, April 1893. To this union three children were born. They are William, Forest, Fred H. and Nellie R., all of New Virginia. His wife died April 7, 1911.

He sold his farm in Scott township and moved to Van Wert in the spring of 1908. He sold his farm there in the spring of 1913 and moved to New Virginia and went into business with his son, Ernest. He was married to Mrs. Allie R. Shetterly, July 17, 1913.

He was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Elm Grove when he was 18 years of age. When he moved to Van Wert, he removed his membership to the M. E. church
