Thomas J. Powers, 89, of Newell, passed, Wednesday, August 5, 2020, at Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley.
Born, December 18, 1930, in Jersey City, NJ., he was a son of the late James and Gertrude C. Dunn Powers.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas J. Powers Jr., and sisters, Irene Wilcox and Rita Burgess.
Thomas was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. He had the distinct privilege of being one of the chosen few to guard President Truman, at his Summer White House. Thomas retired from Ocean County Sheriff’s Department where he worked as an Investigator.
Thomas was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Joan M. Powers; children, James Powers of NJ., Ilene Crayne of Little Egg Harbour, NJ., and Elizabeth Walkinshow of FL.; stepchildren, Janice Knight of Newell, Mike Brodine of KY. And Daniel Brodine of CO.
A private service will be held at the family's request. The Arner Funeral Chapel was entrusted with his arrangements. 8-5-2020
