George H. Gross, age 90; Beloved husband of the late Sally A. Gross for 49 years; Proud father of Janet (Gary) Sluzewski, Dale (Mary Jane Ellis), Chad, Robert (Kathy), and the late Gary (survived by Beverly), and William(deceased) ; Caring grandfather of Michael, Eric, Kurt, Cassandra, Shawn, Karli, Logan, Jessica, and Troye; Loving great-grandfather of Teagen, Kennedy, Brooklyn, Shane, Hudson, Connor, and Elizabeth; Dear son of the late William and Ruth. Passed away August 2, 2020. Memorial donations in his honor may be made out to the Tourette Association of America, 42-40 Bell Boulevard, Suite 205, Bayside, NY 11361.

George had many facets to his long and interesting life. He graduated from West Tech High School in 1948 where he was a member and district champion of the Track and Cross-Country Teams and a member of the State Champion Cross-Country Team in 1945. He went on to receive a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana from 1948-1952. He graduated from the Case Western University of Cleveland, Ohio with a Master of Arts in Education. George served his country after college until 1954 in the Army branch during the Korean War. Afterward, he taught at Cuyahoga Heights Schools for 30 years and coached for 25 years. While there, he established the Gross Family Foundation for the yearly Track and Cross-Country Scholarship and the George Gross Invitational Track and Cross-Country Meets. He was the two-time recipient of the Track Coach of the Year award. He coached numerous state, district, sectional, and conference champions.. George was a generous contributor to Notre Dame, John Carroll University, Holy Family Church, Tourette Association of America, and the Cuyahoga Heights Gross Family Foundation. To this day, George has many accomplishments under his belt that still live on. He was a founding member of the Greater Cleveland Track Coaches Association and he is immortalized in the West Tech Hall of Fame (1995), Ohio Association Track and Cross-Country Coaches Hall of Fame (1996), Cuyahoga Heights Athletic Hall of Fame (1998), and the Cuyahoga Heights High School Hall of Fame (2009). George was known as a kind, genuine and loving man who lived a wonderful life that touched so many others and he will be missed greatly.

Memorial mass at Holy Family Catholic Church, 7367 York Rd, Parma, OH 44130, Friday, August 14 at 11:30AM, to be webcasted for those that cannot attend in person. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Wednesday, August 19 at 1:30 PM.
