David E. Kendall, 80, passed away on July 27, 2020, in Blue Springs, MO.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 1-2pm, with memorial service to follow at 2pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. A graveside service will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

In his honor, the family suggests contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or to Lumicare Hospice.

David was born on March 23, 1940 in Independence, MO, the son of Hubert and Louise (McDonald) Kendall. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in the class of 1958, and married Donna Lea Dobson on April 30, 1960 – to this union were born three daughters.

David began working for Parr Electric doing high line construction. He then worked for SW Bell doing residential service and assignment. One of the highlights of his career included servicing the home phone of Harry Truman. He was also tasked with wiring phone service for the president’s funeral, and later the Democratic Convention in Kansas City. When the company transitioned to AT&T, he was in the business line department, and he retired from there after 40 years of employment. However, true to his nature, David continued working! He came on board with Farmland, then was self-employed, then retired from Lowe’s after a decade of service, then from O’Reilly Auto Parts.

David was passionate about many things. His interests included model railroad trains, muzzleloading (where he made his own award-winning costume, muzzleloader, and boots to do school demonstrations and reenactments at Santi-Cali-Gon), and his pride and joy, his restored 1969 Chevy truck. He also enjoyed camping across the states, fishing, woodworking, and photography. He was a member of the Community of Christ, several car clubs, and the Telephone Company Pioneers. He earned his CDL just so that he could have the credentials to drive school buses full of children to the Shriner’s circus. He loved his family, especially his granddaughters. He helped his children and grandchildren with their homework. David was one of a kind and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Donna; two daughters Denise Russell (husband Ronald) and Sarah Kendall; granddaughters Katie Christensen (husband Steve), Abigael Xavier (husband MSgt. John David), and Lauren Grace Perriman; sister Norma Bain; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Sherry Kendall; his parents Hubert and Louise Kendall; infant brother John Kendall; and brother-in-law Don Bain.
