Carol was an active member and officer of University Professionals of Illinois, Local 4100, IFT-AFT, AFL-CIO. After retiring, she moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to be with her children and granddaughters. She played an integral part in her granddaughter’s lives and actively supported their school and extracurricular activities. Whether it was theatre productions, dance, concerts, soccer games or any of the wide variety of school functions, Grandma Carol could be found by their side. Many in Flagstaff referred to her as “Grandma Carol” and she will always be remembered as the sassy, funny and tough woman she was.

Giving back to her community through volunteer work was a passion for Carol. In Springfield, she spent several summers as a chaperone for The Statesmen Drum & Bugle Corps. She volunteered at the Springfield Theatre Center and worked at fundraising events for Planned Parenthood. In Flagstaff, Carol dedicated many hours working at The Cedar Closet with the Assistance League of Flagstaff. Above all, Carol was passionate about fighting for women’s rights and social justice.

Carol also was a self proclaimed Northern Arizona tour guide for all visiting family and friends. Some of her favorite locations to show off were the Grand Canyon, Wupatki, and Sedona. Carol loved her beautiful mountain town and the community within it. She was proud to highlight the culture, history and landscape that made Arizona her home.
