Juanita Merritt Hogan, 97, of Garner, formerly of St. Pauls, died Sunday August 2, 2020. She was born in Duplin County, NC on January 21, 1923 to the late Lemuel Lucas and Dora Benton Merritt.

She was a loving homemaker. A woman of faith, Juanita was a member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church and the 1991 Presbyterian Women Lifetime Membership Recipient. She oversaw the planning of the Church’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt for many, many years. In reference to others she often used the words “precious” and “darling” and adults and children alike would always receive her arm around their waist with a tickle when greeted at church. Juanita always had a twinkle in her eyes and a contagious, infectious laugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Dora Merritt; husband Ocie Kyle “OK” Hogan, Jr.; and daughter Juanita Carolyn Hogan.

She is survived by her son Ocie Kyle “Chic” Hogan III; daughter, Patricia Hogan; grandsons Brad and David Hogan and 5 great grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service is scheduled for Thursday August 6, 2020 at 11:00 am at Gardens of Faith Cemetery in Lumberton, with the Reverend PJ Southam officiating. In keeping with Governor Cooper’s Executive Order, face masks are suggested.

Original obituary was published by McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls.
