Henry "Hank" Post Ward was born in Nutley, NJ on April 21, 1926 to Percy and Minnie (nee Post) Ward. He attended Yale University through a military scholarship and received his MD from Columbia University. He entered the Navy during the Korean War and served in Japan. He taught at Stanford University before moving to the Washington DC area, where he lived most of the rest of his life working as a psychiatrist at St Elizabeth's Hospital.
