Mr. Carr died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, following an automobile accident in Davenport.
He was employed by Banks Plastering & Drywall, Bettendorf.
Derek was born May 6, 1974, in Davenport, the son of Darryl E. and Bernadette C. (Droste) Carr.
He was a 1992 graduate of Bettendorf High School.
The love of his life was serving on the Bettendorf Volunteer Fire Department. He was dedicated to helping others and was looking forward to the day when he would become a full-time member of the Bettendorf Fire Department.
Derek will always be remembered as being full of life, an upbeat, outgoing and genuinely happy person.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a memorial fund established for Derek's son, Matthew. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Ryan Carr, Davenport; his mother, Bernadette Carr, Barrington, Ill.; his father, Darryl Carr, Bettendorf; sisters and brothers-in-law, Michele and Christian Contos, Spokane, Wash., Maureen and Jason Loomer, North Andover, Mass., and Melanie Carr, Bettendorf; brothers and sister-in-law, Douglas and Kris Carr, Moline, and Dennis Carr, Bettendorf; grandparents, Mary Droste, Clinton, Iowa, and Ray and Enid Carr, Clinton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
