Master Sergeant Richard A. Rodriguez (ret.) of Raeford, N.C. graduated from John A. Rowland High School in Rowland Heights, Calif. in 1991, enlisting as an infantryman in August and retired on Aug. 31, 2012. Richard was a married father with four children. He served 21 years in the Army, deploying to Afghanistan four times and earning a Bronze Star with V for valor in combat in September 2009. Richard was a contractor and Army Special Forces veteran. A few days after a bar fight with Marines in Iraq, he was flown to Germany for additional care but died there with family members present. At the time of his death, he was working for Lockheed Martin. He is survived by his loving wife, Heidi Rodriguez; a son Richard; daughters, Alexis, Alyssa and Alicia; a granddaughter, Paisley Rose Rodriguez; his parents, Richard and Maureen Rodriguez; brothers, David Rodriguez and Steven Rodriguez; a sister, Lori Frias and many extended family members.
