It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we announce the loss of Mrs. Cindy Lynn Russell who was taken very suddenly on the twenty-ninth day of July 2020. Cindy passed away in the place where she had always felt happiest, at her long-time home in Weston, Texas. Cindy was born on August the eighth in 1967 to James Paul Atkins and Joyce Johnson in McKinney, Texas. On March the eighteenth of 1989, Cindy wedded Mr. Scott Anthony Russell, and their blessed union produced one daughter, LaCinda Shantelle Russell, who was born on February the second of 1990. Cindy was the embodiment of love, humor, light-hearted fun, and compassion. She visited many places, but Weston was always home, no matter what. She was well-known for her brilliant red hair, beautiful, artistic fingernails, and her skilled work as a seamstress, but she was probably best known for the baked goods that she so proudly offered to any and all from the bottom of her heart. There are not enough words in the English language to describe the person that Cindy was but anyone who knew her was blessed to have known the deep compassion and fierce love that made her the woman that she was. She was a beloved wife, a treasured mother, and a life-long cat lover. She was a natural-born caregiver who extended compassion and love to many in their final hours and who impacted every life she touched. She loved Elvis Presley, horror movies and a good laugh. She knew how to read a room and could find the humor in anything. She was passionate, vivacious, and the embodiment of what life should be. She was preceded in death by her beloved nephew Brian Leeswood Jones, great grandparents Ivy and Jerry Paul Atkins, Velma Ruth Crosson, and James Johnson who all happily await her on the other side to embrace her in their loving arms once more. Those who are left behind to mourn her tragic loss are her devoted husband Scott Anthony Russell, her beloved daughter LaCinda Shantelle Russell, her precious sisters Mona Malone, Sharon Olivias, Angelica Olivias, her brother-in-law Damon Malone, her nephew Jake Jones, her sisters-in-law Donna, Pam, Tammy, Patty, and their spouses, brother-in-law Ricky and his wife Tammy Lewis, multiple cousins, and so many friends in the Celina, Weston, and surrounding communities whom she met during her lifetime. Cindy was a treasure and they broke the mold when they made her. Life without her will be forever changed but it is through her example of how a life should be lived that we find the strength to carry on and honor her memory
My mother was a special woman who was taken so suddenly in the prime of her life. I feel honored to have shared thirty years with her. I thank God every day for the precious time He gave me with her. My mother was a proponent of animal rescue and a lover of all of God’s creatures both great and small. In lieu of flowers, she desired that donations be made to TGPR (Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue) or to the privately funded animal rescue The Island of Misfit Mutts which can be found on Facebook and to whom she was a benevolent patron. Our family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love during this difficult time as we grieve the loss of such a vibrant women who has left a gaping a hole in our hearts but whose legacy has paved the way for our futures.
