Obituary for Rev. Robert T. Walters Sr.

After a robust life dedicated to service to the Lord and traveling His creation, Reverend Robert Thomas Walters went home to Jesus Christ on August 2, 2020. He has found rest after many years as a true and faithful servant as Minister of Word and Sacrament. He died peacefully at home with his loving wife Barbara Kiliany Walters by his side and the prayers of many lifting the Holy Spirit around him.

Walters was ordained at the First Presbyterian Church in Bethlehem, PA In 1962. He is a member of West Jersey Presbytery. He served New London Presbyterian Church, Union Presbyterian Carneys Point, Beemerville Presbyterian Church, the church of his boyhood days, and several others throughout an illustrious career that touched innumerable lives.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Barbara, his son Robert, Jr and grandchildren Emma and Andrew Adams.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Cecile Bertha and Abraham Isaac Walters.

In addition to his work as Pastor and Church Leader, Bob was passionate about serving his community as co-founder of Oxford Neighborhood House, past president of Penns Grove Rotary, and a member of the YMCA Board of Directors. He played Santa for 15 years in Penns Grove, and acted as Father Christmas for Penns Grove Historical Society. Homelessness was a cause close to his heart and he participated in street ministry to vulnerable populations in Philadelphia and Atlantic City for many years.

When Bob employed his unique sense of humor, he didn't just entertain but "held court" and brought laughter everywhere he went, whether cancer center or hair dresser.

He took great pride and joy in traveling the world with Barbara, mostly by cruise ship, and travelled to at least 25 countries. He treasured his time at sea and regaling friends and family with the tales of his many adventures. His adventurous spirit, humor, and passion for the Lord and the Presbyterian Church will live on in memory.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, services will be private.

Donations may be made to: Memorial Fund, Beemerville Presbyterian Church, 226 County Road 519, Sussex, NJ 07461.
