A burst of light hit the world on Feb 25, 1974. It came in the form of bright blue eyes, a smile that would melt your heart and a personality that brought joy and life to anyone within reach. The world was forever changed.

Sadly, that burst of light has dimmed way too soon. Ryan Dean Hall died on July 28, 2020, in a tragic boating accident at Lake Powell, a place he loved to go year after year. The immense sting of his absence is not only felt by his immediate family, but is also felt by all those who knew and loved Ryan – anyone who had the chance to have his happy personality brighten moments in their life. He is irreplaceable and will be greatly missed.

Ryan was born to Dean and Georgia Hall, bringing a spark of adventure to his entire family. He was a firework of a person. Everywhere he went he brought pure light in the most fun and loud and exciting way, living life to the fullest. No one could light up a room like Ryan! He made everybody feel like a somebody. He’d come to a party not knowing anyone and leave with 10 new best friends. His enthusiasm and positivity were incredible to be around. He made the world a better, happier place – loving and caring for people from all walks of life, with no judgements on where a person came from or who they were. He was tenderhearted and oh, so generous. He’d do anything for you.

He grew up in American Fork, UT, attending Shelley Elementary, AF Jr High and High School, and made so many, many friends along the way. He had a great love for sports! Church ball and little league baseball were so much fun for him. He was quite the slugger, always swinging for the fences. When football became an option, he enthusiastically jumped right in. He was AF High’s MVP his Junior year and “Comeback Player of the Year” his Senior year, after breaking his ankle in the season opener. He may not have always been the best player on the field, but his passion and enthusiasm for the game was unmatched.

Ryan served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Anaheim, CA. We were afraid it might feel like a vacation for him, but he worked and loved hard, continuously building up the missionaries around him. He had such a strong relationship and love for the Savior, one that was sparked while traveling with Heritage Tours his senior year, and continued to grow throughout his mission and the rest of his life. His love for Jesus Christ was unshakable.

25 years ago, Ry met his best friend, soul mate and the love of his life, Jodi Wyler, at Taco Bell. They had the magic, the chemistry, and the love that everyone is searching for. It was endearing to watch him always hold her hand, wherever they went. Their adventures together were constant and their love and loyalty for each other were incredibly evident. They were married May 9, 1996, in Salt Lake City, and brought to the world 3 amazing boys – Dalton (23), Cordell (20), and Brock (17), whom they completely adore. He was the best dad, teaching his kids how to work hard and play hard. He brought his love for sports into their lives, coaching their teams or cheering them from the sidelines. You always knew Ryan was in attendance when you heard that booming voice cheering them on. It was really important to him to create memories with them and bring fun into their lives, be it on the field, the beach (and the water!), by playing games, having contests or just hanging together at home. They have lost their best friend, their teacher, their biggest advocate and cheerleader.

He worked hard to fulfill his dreams by building up various construction companies. His interest in carpentry was sparked after he got his first carpenter’s belt as a kid at the time his dad was finishing the basement. His work ethic was unmatched – a talent he passed on to his boys. When hardships came his way, he would roll with the punches and find new ways to provide for his family, while still planning for big things to come. In 2019, he started up his own homebuilding company, MTN SKY HOMES, with huge amounts of success and two of his boys by his side.

Ryan was on the Saratoga Springs HOA board for many years, always passionate about making that community an amazing place to live and having his hand involved anywhere he could. Because of his passion for football and his desire to unite their new city, he and Jodi started the Westlake Youth Football League, putting in a lot of time and energy to make it a success.

Ryan and Jodi loved to travel and were always super excited to explore new cities. They reveled it up wherever they went! As they were getting close to becoming empty nesters, they looked forward to retiring and having their boys take over the business so they could live their dreams – traveling the world and experiencing new firsts together.

Thank you so much, Ry, for the bright spot you were in our lives, for the teasing and joking and mischievousness; for making us laugh, for teaching us to not take life too seriously, and for making us all feel like we were important. Oh, how we love you. You are irreplaceable…and impossible to forget.

Ryan is survived by his wife, Jodi Wyler Hall, his sons Dalton, Cordell and Brock; his parents, Dean and Georgia Hall; his siblings Lorelie (Noel) Cajigas, Travis (Susan) Hall and Tim (Lexi) Hall; his in-laws Dr. Douglas L. and Kaye Wyler, Bryan Wyler, Cheri’ (Dave) Merkley, and Aimee (Ryan) Kartchner; proceeded in death by his beloved brother, Darren Hall. He also leaves behind dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored him.

We want to extend a huge, heartfelt thank you to the Classic Air Medical, National Park Service Rangers, and Glen Canyon National Recreation Area Dive Team, to the dear friends who jumped into action to urgently help Ryan, and to those who flew his boys to him.
