Howard Lewis, 76, of Screven, died Saturday, August 1, 2020, after a short illness. The Jeff Davis County native lived in Screven all of his life and was a member of Screven First Baptist Church and Gift Sunday School Class. The former ITT Rayonier Employee was a small-town businessman who owned and operated Lewis Pecan Company, Lewis Refrigeration, and Lewis Rentals. He loved to fish and was the most generous man who didn’t like the spotlight but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, P. A. and Opal Lewis; sister, Antoinette Crouthamel; brother, P. A. Lewis, Jr.
Survivors are his wife of 55 years, Madelyn Carter Lewis of Screven; daughters, Connie (Mark) Carter of Blackshear and Cathy (Russ) Martin of Screven; grandchildren, Hunter (Amber) Carter, Ryan Carter, Cayla Jo and Riley Martin; sisters, Patsy Corker of Virginia and Cynthia (Jerry) Parker of Screven; several nieces and nephews.
Private memorial service and burial will be held by the family.
