Atlanta, Ga. - Martha Calhoun Patton, age 94, formerly of Abingdon, VA, died peacefully in Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother - always devoted to her family. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing card games, and dining out. Martha was a faithful long-time member of Abingdon Baptist Church. During her working years, she worked for the local telephone company.
In 2014, Martha moved to Atlanta, GA to be closer to her family. She was an active member of the Chambrel/Brookdale Senior Living community, where she made many close friends and was always looking out for them. She cherished time with family - from celebrating special occasions and holidays to attending church every Sunday with her daughter and son-in-law.
Martha was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, W.C., and is survived by her daughter MaryBeth Sweeney and son-in-law Bill Sweeney of Alpharetta, GA, and two granddaughters, Megan Kogan and Kathleen Sweeney.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Bill Bryan officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be George Blevins, Mike Kiser, Dickie Kiser, Kevin Able, Larry Payne, Johnny Crigger, Don Farmer, Jim Hughes, and Jeff Sweeney.
Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery 15 minutes prior to the service. In accordance with COVID-19 restrictions, face coverings are recommended and social distancing is encouraged.
