OBITUARY: Verna (Fischer) Green, September 21, 1926 ~ August 1, 2020 - reprinted from the Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel

Verna (Fischer) Green, age 93 of Hastings, died peacefully at home on Saturday morning, August 1, 2020.

Verna Jeanette, the daughter of Karl and Lena (Kocher) Fischer, was born on September 21, 1926, in Hague, North Dakota. After graduating from Hague High School with the class of 1943, Verna attended St. Catherine's College in St. Paul where she was majoring in music before graduating from the US Cadet Nursing Corps Program with a Nursing Degree. Verna then worked at St. Mary's Hospital in Minneapolis, and on February 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert James Green. They were blessed with two children and later moved to Hastings in 1956 where she began working part-time at Regina Hospital. After she and Jim retired, they enjoyed traveling to all the states to visit relatives and enjoyed all the National Parks that they could. They also enjoyed traveling to the Kona Island of Hawaii to visit their sister and brother-in-law. They also built a lake home in Northwest Wisconsin and spent many enjoyable hours there fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing, and entertaining.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and mother and father-in-law, John and Mary Green; sister, Olivia Wakely; sister-in-law, Marguerite Green; brother-in-law, John Green; son-in-law, Gary Ribble; and by her dear husband, R. James Green.

Verna is survived by her two children, Cathy Ribble and Anthony Green; sister, Doris (Earl) Bakken; and by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Matthew Shireman officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.

Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
