David "Dave" Lee Starr, Sr., age 51, of Findlay, passed away on January 5, 2019 at 9:04 p.m. at the Toledo Hospital. Dave was born on December 28, 1967 in Findlay, Ohio to Terry Lee and Jeannie (Fornes) Starr. Dave was married to his best friend and the love of his life Tonya Finsel on October 3, 1986 and she survives, along with their two children, DJ Starr of Findlay and BreAnna (Matthew) Sopher of Findlay; one grandchild, Aspen Sopher, and another grandchild that is expected to arrive in July; his mother, Jeannie Starr of Findlay; a brother, Ricky Starr of McComb; and two sisters, Cindy Wolford of Dunedin, Florida, and Tammy (Rick) Fields of Findlay. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Terry Lee Starr. Dave loved family above all and was a proud husband, father, grandfather, beloved son, brother and uncle. He enjoyed time spent with family and always made time for everyone. No one was a stranger to Dave, he was always the life of the party. Dave was an avid hunter and caretaker of his land "down south," Five Starr Farms. He expressed his passion for the outdoors and conservationism as an active member of Pheasants Forever, Hancock County and Black Swamp Bucks Unlimited. Also, a tireless fisherman, Dave enjoyed time at the lake and spending the day on his boat catching the daily limit. His fish fries were famous and highly anticipated by all as a good time and good eating! He will be especially missed by his beloved dogs Hunter and Oakley. Dave and Tonya have owned Fornes Complete Auto & Truck Service in Findlay, for the past 16 years. They proudly carried the tradition as the 3rd generation of this family-owned and operated business which was started by his grandfather Clarence Fornes, in 1929. Dave worked at Fornes for 38 years becoming the familiar and friendly face of the business that serves Findlay and the surrounding areas. Visitation for friends and family of Dave will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 2-4 and 5-8:00 p.m. at KIRKPATRICK-BEHNKE FUNERAL HOME, 500 Lima Avenue, Findlay, Ohio. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 750 Bright Road Findlay, Ohio. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, Dave's family will honor him by starting two scholarship funds. Donations can be made to the Dave Starr Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Hancock County Pheasants Forever, Treasurer 120 Beechmont Drive, Findlay, Ohio 45840 or c/o Black Swamp Bucks Unlimited, 15272 East State Route 12, Findlay, Ohio 45840.
