Charlotte “Jibbie” (West) Anderson, age 92 of New Ulm passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Oak Hills Living Center.

A Memorial service will be livestreamed Monday, August 10, 2020 at 11:00 am with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. To view the live stream go the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home Facebook page or mvfh.org and click on the Facebook link. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery.

Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Ann Rae (Douglas) Herr and twin grandchildren, Dimitri and Ginivra. She is also survived by very close friends she viewed as family: Carol Alwin, Dr. Marc and Lori Burkhart, Gerry and Carol Larson, and Paul and Jo Meidl.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Hobart; her parents, Charles and Cora West, “Auntie” Charlotte and Lester Barrett.

Charlotte was born August 21, 1927 in St. Cloud to Charles and Cora (Raymond) West. She attended St. Cloud Teachers College and the University of Minnesota where she earned degrees in secondary and elementary education with concentration in instrumental and vocal music, mathematics, and English, early childhood and kindergarten. She belonged to two honor societies – Kappa Delta Pi and Photozeteans. After 37 ½ years of teaching about 3,000 students, she retired on June 6, 1986.

She married Hobart Anderson on Sunday, April 18, 1954. The family did considerable world and domestic traveling. They hosted three AFS students from Thailand, Spain and Turkey.

She was active and held office in several organizations/clubs/groups: NU Area Orchestra, Municipal Band, Children’s Choir, AFS, AAUW, NUPSTA (NUEA), Crescendo Club, Brown Co. Federated Women, bridge clubs, (WGHA) Wanda Gag House Association (originated Nov. 15, 1988 –restoration totally finished Oct. 8, 2008 – a month before Hobart’s 80th birthday – thus a 2nd career of 22 years of volunteering was shared by both.

Please - In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials are preferred to the New Ulm Medical Center Foundation, 1324 – 5th St North, New Ulm, MN 56073 and the New Ulm Area Foundation, P.O. Box 201, New Ulm, MN, 56073. Health-related and teaching scholarships have been established with the aforementioned Foundations. Six health-related and one teaching scholarship have been awarded.
