Civil War Union Army Officer. He was the father of 10 sons, the "Tribe of Dan" of the Fighting McCooks and Brother to John McCook (Father of 5 sons,"Tribe of John" of the Fighting McCooks) Military Figures- Union Paymaster, mortally wounded during the Battle of Buffington Island, near Porland, Ohio(Ohio Civil War officers killed in battle in Ohio are rare ) Strange note-Daniel Sr. and sons Charles Morris and Daniel Jr. all died on a July 21st as a result of battle wounds. Charles, Bull Run July 21st, 1861-, Daniel Sr. Buffington Island, July 21st, 1863- Daniel Jr. Kenesaw Mt. July 21st, 1864.
