Juanita Lou Simmons Perkins (Sister Baby, Aunt Nee Nee, Momma Perk, Maw Maw, Maw Maw Perk) went to meet the Lord at the age of 86, on Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her home in Pineville, La.

Juanita Perkins was born on Sunday, February 26, 1928 in Woodworth, LA to Enos L. and Edith Faust Simmons. She was one of seven children, having four brothers and two sisters. Her mother passed away when she was eight years old and she became a mother to all her siblings. On April 12, 1946, she was married to Ben H. Perkins.

Her mothering nature was a dominant trait throughout her life. She ran a child care service in her Pineville home from the 1960s into the 1980s. The children she cared for fell in love with her, often visiting her as adults to introduce their own children to "Momma Perk." Family was very important to Mrs. Perkins. She was born at home with her family and she died at home with family and close friends around her.

She was a wonderful cook and loved to can vegetables and fruits from her garden. She adored beautiful flowers and usually had potted plants in bloom throughout the summer. Music was an important part of her life, and gospel music was her favorite. She loved weddings and often served as a volunteer wedding organizer. She was a very caring person who responded to people in need throughout her life.

A lifelong resident of Pineville, Juanita Perkins was a member of First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Enos L. and Edith Faust Simmons; brothers, Glenn L. Simmons, Wyman Simmons and James D. Simmons; and a sister, Connie Hill.

She is survived by husband Ben H. Perkins; brother Tommy Simmons; sister Edith Howard; children Shelton Perkins (Sally), Brenda Holliday (John), Gary Perkins (Sherry), and Kayla Aymond (John); grandchildren Katrina Holliday (Khaled Rabbani), Benjamin Holliday (Yael Avivi), Carrie Sneed (Robert), Cainan Baker (Cassie), Vivian Perkins, Lindsey Voss (Bill), Noah Baker (Kristy), Garrett Perkins, and Leah Johnson (Marcus); eleven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Juanita Lou Simmons Perkins will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Pineville, with Reverend Alton Hawk assisted by Richard Bushnell and Lynn Dyess Stewart. Interment will follow at Alexandria Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Hixson Brothers in Pineville on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, from 5 PM to 9 PM.
