Funeral service for Mr. Larry Carl Alexander, age 63 of Tyler will be held at 12:00 P.M., Monday, August 3, 2020 at the St. Louis Missionary Baptist Church 4000 Frankston Hwy, Tyler. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, 1310 W. NW Loop 323, Tyler under the direction of Garmon Funeral Home.

Born:

Larry Carl Alexander was born on December 6th, 1956 in Austin, Texas to the late I. G. Alexander and Ola Rea Alexander. Larry grew up in the Austin and Killen, Texas area and was affectionately known as ‘Big Red’.

Education:

Mr. Larry Carl Alexander graduated from Killeen High School in 1975 and was a standout member of the Varsity Football, Basketball, and Baseball teams. His educational journey continued when he was recruited to Rose State College in Oklahoma on a basketball, baseball and wrestling scholarship. There he dominated athletically and became known as a furious competitor, skilled pitcher, and master of wrestling techniques. Mr. Larry Alexander finished with an Associate of Arts from Angelina College. He later attended Texas College and majored in Business Administration.

Professional Career:

Larry Alexander began his career working at Austin Coco-Cola for more than a decade serving as an Inventory Control Manager. During this time, he formed, trained and mentored many youth basketball players with Fastbreak Basketball and Texas Breakers AAU programs. In 1998 Larry began his College Basketball Coaching Career at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas. During his tenure, he served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for several successful seasons. Larry continued his coaching career at Texas College coaching both the Men’s and Women’s program. In 2007 Larry Alexander coached with his wife Debra Alexander at Texas College and was an integral part of the Women’s Basketball Program reaching the National Tournament for the first time in school history. He continued his success at Southern University in Shreveport, Louisiana before ultimately retiring from Lamar State College in Port Arthur, Texas.

Family:

Larry leaves to cherish his memories, a wife of 41 years, Debra Alexander of Tyler, Texas; two daughters: Lauren Smith of Tyler, Texas; Stefen Harmon of Mount Pleasant, Texas; two grandsons: Michael and Joshua Smith of Tyler, Texas; one granddaughter: Londyn Brielle Harmon of Mount Pleasant, Texas; three brothers: Patrick Alexander of San Antonio, Texas; Derrick Alexander of Austin, Texas; Deric A. Alexander of Round Rock, Texas; one sister: Ruby Alexander of Austin, Texas and a host of relatives and friends.



Public viewing for Mr. Alexander will be Sunday, August 2, 2020 from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.



Mr. Alexander passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 in Tyler.
