Sometime later, she moved to Ybor City, with her Mother, her sister and her two brothers. As a young teen, "Jean" helped at her Mother's restaurant, the Chili Bowl, on 7th Avenue. By about 1948, she was working at the Union Café at Tampa's Railway Station.
Jean and James R. Evans, were married May 7, 1950, at the Palm Avenue Baptist Church. Together they raised two daughters in Tampa and Temple Terrace.
