Phyllis was born on October 6, 1941, in Brazil, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Martin) Cooper. She graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1959. She married Tom James on October 16, 1959. She worked for J.C. Penney, First Bank and Trust, House of Spirits, and the Brazil Public Library.
Phyllis enjoyed her dogs Molly and Teddy, working crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents Irene and Frank Cooper; brothers: Larry Cooper, Bruce Cooper; in-laws: Emma and Ross James, Robert James, Doris Johnson, Mary Francis Rutherford, Jean Endsley, Janet Bledsoe, Tish Autison, Pat James, and Web James.
Survivors include her husband Tom James; daughters: Kim Montague and husband Michael of Brazil and Jayme James of Brazil; a son Parry James of Brazil; grandchildren: Taylor (Katie) Montague of Mooresville, Samantha (Austin) Frankville of Indianapolis; a sister Carolyn (Lowell) Garrigus of Clarksville, Tennessee; sister-in-law Sandy (Tom) Ames of Clay City; brother-in-law Tub (Donna) James of Plainfield; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clay County Humane Society 8280 N County Rd 125 W #7535, Brazil, IN 47834.
Visitation will be at Lawson – Miller Chapel 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, Indiana 47834, on Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 11am until 1pm. Services will follow at 1:00pm. Burial will be held at Clearview Cemetery.
