Elzy B. Luna, a former Strathmore resident, passed away on Nov. 28 in Fresno. He was 92 years young.

He and his fraternal twin Emsley were born on Dec. 18, 1910 in Ava County, Mo. The Luna family moved to California in 1918 and settled in the Lindsay area. As a young man, he played saxophone in a three-piece band that played throughout the southern San Joaquin Valley.

He married Virginia Carter in 1937, and together they raised two daughters, Joane and Jodee, in Strathmore. He was a member of the school board and served as president of the Strathmore Chamber of Commerce.

He and his wife moved to Oakhurst, Calif. in 1970, where he operated a dry-cleaning business. After "retiring," he provided security for the North Fork Mill and worked as a janitor at Yosemite High School.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, a sister and four brothers.

He is survived by a brother in Concord; a sister in North Fork; two daughters; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren all of Fresno; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was greatly loved by family and friends, and will be deeply missed.
