A SAD DEATH

The icy hand of death touched the fair brow of Mrs. Mamie Purnell Sisson last Saturday evening and claimed his victim. She was beyond the aid of medical skill, and her death was not unexpected, yet the whole community received the news of her death as a shock which cast a gloom over the entire city.

She was the wife of Congressman T. U. Sisson, daughter of Capt. and Mrs. J. C. Purnell of this place. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, five small children, the eldest, Upton, about 11 years old, a baby boy less than one year old, her father and mother, three brothers, Frank, James and Rhesa, and two sisters, Mrs. Eunice Cameron and Miss Jennie Purnell, and a number of near relatives, besides a host of friends. Mrs. Sisson was reared here and at an early age connected herself with the Episcopal Church of this place and was one of its foremost members. Truly it may be said a good woman has gone, for everyone who knew her loved her. A great worker in the vineyard of the Lord has gone to receive her reward.

The beautiful life of Mrs. Sisson will ever be to those who knew and loved her a sweet memory, for her splendid traits of character and her ability to charm all who knew her stand out clear and bright and reveal to us the fact that God claims for his own even the brightest and most desired ones. The funeral services took place at Emmanuel Church Monday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. D. T. Johnson, of Canton, a former pastor, Dr. Gunn, of Grace Church, Memphis, also a former pastor, and Rev. McCrady, of Greenwood, conducting the services. The remains were laid away in Oakwood cemetery and she sleeps beneath a bank of flowers, tokens of esteem and love.

The out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral services were: Messrs. R. R. Hawkins, John D. Hawkins, Louis H. Hawkins, of Vaiden, Miss., Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Barksdale of Vaiden, Miss.: Miss M. M. Hawkins, of Atlanta, Ga.; Mrs. Louis Jones, of Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Wm. Pillow, of Greenwood, Miss.; Mrs. Lipscomb, of Columbus, Miss.; Mrs. Campbell, of Sumner, Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. S. Turner, Carrollton, Miss.; Mr. Norfleet Hawkins, Swan Lake, Miss.; Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Foltz, Foltz, Miss.; Mr. Charles Drane, McCool, Miss.; Miss Francis Drane, McCool.
