Daniel “Danny” Joseph Garner, age 61, passed away on July 27, 2020, in Gulfport, MS.

Danny was born February 20, 1959, in Long Beach, CA. He moved to Long Beach, MS where he graduated high school in 1978. After high school, he was awarded a tennis scholarship at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College where he received his Associates in Applied Science. Upon graduation Danny attended Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy. He spent 40 years in law enforcement positions including Reserve Captain for the City of Gulfport, Chief of Security of Edgewater Mall in Biloxi, and Chief of Police at MGCCC Harrison County campus.

One of his career highlights was providing security detail for President (at the time) George H.W. Bush when he was visiting the Gulf Coast. Danny still has the proud moment captured in a photo.

Danny’s friends and family know he immensely enjoyed floating in his pool, bowling, and cheering on his New Orleans Saints. A Saints season ticket holder since 1999, Danny was just as proud to be a part of the organization during the “Brown Bag Years” as he was attending the 2010 Saints Super Bowl win in Miami, FL.

Danny was preceded in death by his father John H. Garner, Sr.; stepfather Sidney Rosensweig; and father-in-law Crawford Goins.

He is survived by his dearly loved wife of 31 years, Xandra Garner of Gulfport; his daughter, Alexandra (Seth) Burris of Senatobia, MS; his mother Rose Mary Rosensweig of Gulfport; his siblings: Donald Garner, TN, Gregory Garner, MS, John (Carol) Garner, CA, James Garner, FL, Lisa (Tim) Spencer, CA, and Eric (Mandy) Rosensweig, AL; and his mother-in-law Gloria Goins of Gulfport.

Due to current Governor Mandates, a visitation will not be held for the public. However, the family invites all friends to view the procession honoring Chief Danny Garner. The procession will travel west on Switzer Road in Gulfport in front of his beloved Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2020. There is various parking along Switzer Road, including the campus, to view the procession. American flags, Saints flags, and SMILES are encouraged. Please practice safe distancing while paying your respects.

The procession will conclude at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens mausoleum on Carl Leggett Road, Gulfport, for a small graveside service at 10:30 a.m.
We wish to thank the many hands that have lifted our family up in actions and prayers at this time and Danny’s brothers and sisters in uniform for many years of support. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the MGCCC Foundation designated to the Chief Garner Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will sponsor students majoring in criminal justice education. Donations can be mailed to the Foundation at P.O. Box 99, Perkinston, MS 39573.

Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue in Biloxi, is honored to serve this family.
