Betty Jean (Sanderlin) Conner
October 1, 1933 ~ July 28, 2020 (age 86)

Betty Jean Conner, 86, of Chattanooga, TN passed away peacefully on July 28, 2020 at her home.

Jean was born October 1, 1933 in Lepanto, AR to the late George Franklin Sanderlin and Bobbie Reves Sanderlin. She married her lifelong love, Jesse P. Conner, Jr., in April of 1957 who preceded her in death in 2009.

Jean graduated from the Baptist School of Nursing in Memphis, TN. Her life was a living example of being kind and compassionate to one another. As long as her health allowed, she was an active member of Tyner United Methodist Church and their T.O.T.S. group.

Jean was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and especially enjoyed her role as “Grammie.” She vivaciously shared her love of the Tennessee Volunteers and the Atlanta Braves with her family and will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

Her survivors are daughters, Rebecca (Tyler) Conner Overley and Marcia (Thomas) Conner Smith, both of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Conner Thomas Smith, Cara Jean Smith and Sarah Jane Overley; her cherished sister, Doris Sanderlin McGowan of Mesquite, TX; niece, Tami (Erik) Swanson of Dallas, TX; nephew, Stephen McGowan, and great nephews, Seth McGowan and Sean McGowan all of Mesquite, TX. She loved and touched her family and friends deeply.

Our eternal gratitude to Dr. Brant Holt, M.D., the Nephrology Associates staff and to Hospice of Chattanooga East Team for their care and support.

A graveside service will be held 2 PM Wednesday, August 5, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Jim Vick will conducting the service.

Those attending the graveside service are to arrive no earlier than 1:45 PM at the Chattanooga National Cemetery office. CDC guidelines require social distancing and wearing of facial coverings at all times while on the premises.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association in her memory.
