Carol passed away peacefully in her home at Orchard House/Providence Benedictine Nursing Center on May 3, 2020. Carol was born in Hutchinson, Kansas to Roy and Gladys Archer where she spent her childhood, eventually moving to Washington State where she met and married Elroy W. Cooper. They began a family in the Longview/Vancouver area before moving to Oregon where she spent most of her adult years. She studied briefly at Texas Christian University and Northwest Christian College, then worked in several law offices in Washington. She and Roy moved their young family to Lake Oswego, Oregon where they lived for many years before finally moving to Hubbard, Oregon where she could grow a big garden and have the chickens and horses she'd always longed for. Carol worked at Lewis and Clark College in the Dean's office, then became Director of Teacher Placement, a job she loved because of the close contact with students. Upon her retirement, she and Roy enjoyed life in the country, surrounded by nature, family, and friends in the neighborhood. After Roy passed away in 2013, she continued to maintain their small farm accompanied by her beloved dog, Charlie, and several cats. She moved to Orchard House in Mt. Angel in 2018 and found another friendly community among the staff and residents. Feeding the squirrels and birds kept her entertained, and her children often came by to take her to lunch or shopping.

Carol is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their warmest thanks and appreciation to the caring staff at Providence/Benedictine Nursing Center. The staff became a wonderful extension of our own family and we are very grateful to them all.
