Tim Rex Nelson was born to Tommy Rex Nelson and Sharon Lucas on February 6, 1955 in Shawnee, Oklahoma and went to meet his Lord on July 27, 2020 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Tim grew up in Shawnee and attended elementary school and Shawnee High where he was an outstanding athlete lettering in Football, Basketball , Baseball and Golf. Tim finished his high school years at Putnam City graduating from Putnam West High. He then attended Oklahoma State University on a football letter but chose to change to music forming a band, T G Lockheart, to pay for his education. He was a member of the Phi Kappa Tae fraternity where he met his band members. When their drummer was killed in an accident, they moved to Tulsa and joined his dad, Tommy Nelson, at the Tiki Nook.
Tim Rex, his professional name, became an outstanding entertainer and recording artist, landing four songs on Billboards top 100 charts. He was an opening act for some of the top names in show business and toured with his Dad Tommy Nelson for many years. Tim loved music and golf, playing in many celebrity tournaments including Roy Clarks, Floyd Cramer and Dale Robertsons. He also was tournament director for the Variety Club of Oklahoma golf events and served on the board of Variety Clubs. He loved helping kids with challenges and was on Father Pauls advisory board for many years.
Tim loved his family and his boys, Elwyn and Josh, he coached their baseball, soccer and basketball teams and was always there when they needed something. He also loved and adored his grandchildren, Kylie and Skylar, they called him grampa Tim. He also was crazy about his pups, Snoopy, Harley, Lucie and Bam Bam.
Tim was loved and respected by so many of his fellow musicians and entertainers as well as many friends. Always ready to help those needing food and a place to crash for a night or longer.
Tim and his Dad Tommy Nelson had a father son bond like no other, they grew up together and then later partners in the music business, writing many songs, some recorded and also other projects of interests .
Tim was devastated last June 9, 2019 when his youngest son Joshua Nelson was killed in a gun related incident, he never got over this tragic thing.
Tim is preceded in death by his wife Penny Nelson, son Joshua Nelson, Mother Sharon Stewart, Grandfather Arnold Ben Nelson, Grandmother Rena Louise Nelson.
He is survived by Father Tommy Nelson, son Elwyn Nelson, his wife Whitney, granddaughters Kylie and Skylar, daughter-in-law Katie Nelson, brother Jon Stewart, sister Rhea Stewart, granddaughter Laura Blackston, Dear friend Jana Blaylock, Dan Blubaugh, many cousins.
