Ida S. Barker, age 79, the former Ida Smith, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 9:17 p.m. at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette. Ms. Barker was a native of Sunset and a resident of Grand Coteau. She had been a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau and was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxillary.

Survivors include three sons, Francis Barker, Jr. of Carencro, Carl Xavier Barker and his wife, Roxanne, of Youngsville, and Jerome Barker and his wife, Janet, Seattle, WA; seven daughters, Laura Faulk and her husband, Sidney, Agatha Broussard and her husband, Rodney, Linda Francis, and Charlotte Ard and her husband, Leroy, all of Lafayette; Elizabeth Barker, Ida J. Barker and Pamela Barker, all of Grand Coteau; twenty-grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, James L. Smith of Baton Rouge, LA; and one sister, Mildred Rubin of Port Arthur, TX.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Barker, Sr.; her parents, Clement Smith and mother the former Laura Mayfield, both natives of St. Landry Parish; and two brothers, Peter Smith and Joseph C. Smith.

Melancon Funeral Home of Grand Coteau, 289 Church Street, is in charge of arrangements.
