Musician. He was a founding member of the Hip-Hop ensemble "The Roots." Formed in 1987 by Ahmir 'Questlove' Thompson and Tariq 'Black Thought' Trotter, Basit joined the then group "The Square Roots," prior to their name change and relocation to London, where their debut album "Organix" was recorded in 1993. The was followed with "Do You Want More?" (1995), "Illadelphia Halflife" (1996), which included the Top 40 hit "What They Do" and "Things Fall Apart" (1999), which contained the Top 40 hit "You Got Me". He departed in 1999 and went on to produce and record as a solo artist.
