Darrell William Lee, 46, son of Gail Merckling Lee and James William Lee, was born Oct. 24, 1960, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. He died Aug. 10, 2007, during the Texas County Demolition Derby, where he had just celebrated with his sons who both qualified for the finals.

The trio had built the cars, and he was Denim's co-driver.

Mr. Lee attended Raymondville School through the eighth grade and graduated from Houston High School in 1979. He spent most of his life at Raymondville, where he coached Little League baseball and basketball teams at Raymondville and Mighty Mite football at Houston.

He married Michaelle K. Adams March 28, 1980, at Cabool. They had two sons.

He was a carpenter in the St. Louis area until he and his wife opened Lee's Salvage in 1990 at Raymondville.

Mr. Lee was a board member of the Wildwood House of Prayer and served in Bible school as the game guy and candy man and provided water games to incorporate with the Bible lessons.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Dove Emma Gordineer Lee and Fred Eugene Lee; maternal grandparents, Sylvia Elizabeth Anna Walker Merckling and Wayne Arthur Merckling; and special friend, Lester Portrey.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Coleman Jesse and Denim J; his parents of Raymondville; brothers, James Wayne Lee of Raymondville and Donald Eugene Lee of Foristel; and sisters, Rebecca Heath of Houston, Beth Ann Cooper of Nixa, Kathy Lee French of Raymondville and Shirley Kinserlow of Licking.

Services were Aug. 14 at the Wildwood House of Prayer at Raymondville with Dors Wilson officiating. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Wildwood House of Prayer building fund.
