Mr. James Keith Edens, 76, of Hillsboro passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in Hillsboro. He was born March 2, 1944, in Temple to Eugene LaVerne and Annie Laurie (Cliett) Edens. When Keith was eight years old, his mother succumbed to cancer, leaving his father and grandmother to raise him and his brother Eugene. He attended schools in Hillsboro and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1962. He then attended Hill Junior College and Dallas Institute Gumpton-Jones College of Mortuary Science where he earned his funeral director and embalmers license in 1966. Keith was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Daniels March 21, 1964, and they shared over 56 years together. Throughout the years, they owned and operated several businesses in Hillsboro including Town East Apartments, Town East Jiffy Mart, Creekside Housing Addition, Edens Funeral Home and also continued his family's heritage of operating the Edens Farm.

His ancestors migrated to the United States from England and later settled in Texas in the early 1800s. They were featured in a book "Taming Texas" by Stephen L. Moore describing a family massacre in 1838 at their homesite located about 2.5 miles south of Augusta, Texas where a historical marker has been placed. Keith was also honored by the Hill County Genealogical Society in 2003 for his family being one of the first to settle in Hill County and described in the book "First Families of Hill County." Keith was strong in his faith and was member of Hill College Church of Christ. He enjoyed hunting in numerous places in the United States, Mexico, Africa and Mongolia. He was a patron member of the National Rifle Association, former member of Hillsboro Kiwanis Club, Friends of Hillsboro City Library and past board member of the Brandon-Irene Water Supply Corporation. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Edens; son, James Kirby Edens; daughter, Kim Lewis and husband, Mike; two grandsons, Ryan Edens and Dustin Crenwelge; three granddaughters, Ryley Edens, Ashley Crenwelge and Brooke Cagle and husband, Eric; two great-granddaughters, Greenlee and Cora Cagle; one brother, Eugene Edens and wife, Susan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro with Eugene Edens officiating.
