Marcia was born May 1, 1954 in Statesville to Mr. and Mrs. Pinkney Maxwell Neely. She graduated from Saint Mary's Junior College in Raleigh and UNC-Chapel Hill, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She married her husband Jamie in 1977 and moved to Charlotte where they became members of Christ Episcopal Church. She was also involved in the Women of the Word Bible Study, Friendship Trays, the Junior League, Good Friends, and the Metastatic Cancer Support Group at the Buddy Kemp Center. She was also a member of All Saints Church in Pawleys Island, S.C. where she enjoyed spending time. Marcia is remembered, not for her illness, but for her enduring faith in The Lord, for her love of her husband and their children, her graciousness, her tenderness of spirit, and the depth of kindness she showed to others. She was admired by so many for strength and courage, yet was quick to give credit to God saying "I can do all things through Him who gives me strength." (Phil 4:13) In addition to her mother,
Marcia is survived by her husband, Jamie; her son Grant and his wife, Lauren; daughter, Neely, all of Charlotte; brothers, Jim Neely and his wife, Ginger and Bill Neely and his wife, Tammy, of Statesville.
A memorial service to celebrate Marcia's life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. In lieu of sending flowers to the family, they asked that flowers be sent to your best friend to show them your love.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, PO Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff of Levine Cancer Institute, Carolina's Medical Center, and the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster that provided loving and superb care to Marcia. Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral Director Licensee, 704-641-7606.
