He was born August 4, 1952 in Fairbury, son of William and Sue Baker Jenkins. He married JoAnn R. Gaston in 1986.
Surviving are his wife, JoAnn; three children, Brook (Matt) Hagen, Kurt Jenkins and Matthew Jenkins and two grandchildren, Austin and Jesse Hagen. Also surviving are one brother, Mike Jenkins; three sisters, Kim Kafer, Pam (Chuck) Whitesel and Teri (Randy) Lindzy and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Darlene Turner and brother-in-law, Randy Turner.
Gary was a 1970 graduate of Fairbury-Cropsy High School. He enjoyed a long career as a tool and die maker at Group Tool and Die in Normal, retiring in 2013. Gary enjoyed playing baseball and later bowling. He was an avid U of I Fighting Illini and St. Louis Cardinals fan and he also enjoyed NASCAR. Gary's greatest enjoyment came with spending time with family and friends and will be greatly missed.
