Ret. MSgt. Robert Johnson “Bob” Baldwin, Jr., 78, husband of Norma Kay (Ellis) Ralston Baldwin of Clemmer Lane, Staunton passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 in Augusta Health in Fishersville.

Mr. Baldwin was born in Roanoke, Virginia on June 27, 1941, a son of the late Robert Johnson and Lucille (Grubb) Baldwin.

Bob was a member of New Covenant Community Church in Weyers Cave where he sang on the Praise and Worship Team with his great bass voice which added much to the team. He retired from the United States Army as a Master Sgt. after twenty-one years of service and three tours in Vietnam. While in the service Bob received Five Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, five Army Commendation Medals, Service Medal in October 1975, Army Dress Blue (Gold on Blue) Enlisted Rank Medal, Gold Army Recruiter Identification Badges with two Sapphire Stars, Soldiers Medal, USAMM Army Medals Mounting Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Prongless Silver Good Conduct One Knot Device, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. He was a graduate of Roanoke High School and also attended Tidewater Community College for two years. Bob retired from Bankers Insurance with over thirty years of service, where he helped hundreds of people. He developed a team at Hospice of the Shenandoah to serve veterans at the end of life’s journey and presented each veteran with a beautiful wooden emblem specific to their branch of service, which was designed and made by his brother, Randy, who lives in North Carolina. The veterans cherished these and were also presented with a quilted lap quilt made by his wife Norma along with others who quilted. Bob was a member of the Staunton Kiwanis Club. He loved life, loved people, and he loved the Lord. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching Fox News. He never met a stranger and would quickly tell everyone he met that he was a Warrior and he loved being a soldier. Bob made a significant difference in the lives of many while on this earth and will be missed by many who loved and knew him. I am sure when he passed he heard the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant”.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Hannelore “Suzy” (Wellman) Baldwin, and a brother, Doug Baldwin.

Surviving in addition to his wife of twelve years is a son, Robert J. “Rob” Baldwin, III and his fiancée Erin Blackwell of Staunton; five daughters, Helene Stroop and her husband David of Verona, Christine Horne and her husband Bryan of Staunton, Amy Hepler and her husband Ronnie of Staunton, Jennifer Ludvik of Richmond, and Michelle Lotts and her husband Eric of Staunton; a brother, Randy Baldwin and his wife Dinah of North Carolina; nine grandchildren, Dustin Campbell, Zach Ralston, Aaron Baldwin, Maggie Wilsdorf and her husband Seth, Toby Horne, Isaac Hepler, Nathan Baldwin, Olivia Hepler, and Emma Grace Lotts; and two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Ava Campbell.
