Rex C. Smith, Jr., 54, of Elm Street, Cobleskill passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 26th, under the loving care of his family and hospice.
Rex was born November 20, 1965 in Cobleskill, NY the son of Rex C. and Lola J. (Hogaboone) Smith, Sr.
Rex graduated from Cobleskill High School, Class of 1983. He attended SUNY Cobleskill where he received his associate’s degree in Culinary Arts in 1985.
He worked the majority of his career as the Dining Hall Manager at SUNY Cobleskill and the Chef Manager at SUNY Oneonta. He was most recently employed as the Chef Manager at Café Services in Rensselaer.
Rex enjoyed life to the fullest with his family, his career and his hobbies. He was a competitive swimmer, enjoyed playing golf, watching sports, and camping. He had a passion for music and being outdoors. He made many unforgettable memories with his wife, Kathy, and his children by his side.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Garufi) Smith whom he married April 16, 1992; his children: Audrey Johnston Helme (Ben) of Cobleskill, Jillian Smith of Warnerville and Zerek Smith of Cobleskill; his 4 grandsons: Camden, Caleb, Bently and Ryker; his father Rex C. Smith, Sr. of Bennington, VT; his sister Thalia Wilborn (Jimmy) of Bennington, VT and his brothers: Brian Smith (Jess) of Vernon, NJ, Paul Smith of Orlando, FL, Aaron Smith (Stephanie) of Ballston Spa, and Kevin Joyal (Jim) of Ballston Spa; along with several nieces and nephews.
Rex was predeceased by his mother, Lola and his sister, Annette Kelly.
