Hiram R. Samuels was born in Saline county, Missouri, September 4, 1864. At the age of 19 he came to Greenwood county.
On February 28, 1892, he was married to Susie S. Jones. After two years on a farm near Eureka, they moved to the farm five miles south of Hamilton where they toiled thru 48 years (two years short of half a century) sharing lean years with the prosperous in the experience common to farm life.
A year ago this last February they retired form the farm and moved to Hamilton.
Six sons were born to this home, two dying infancy. A third was taken from the home by diphtheria when eight years old. A second son served in the first World War where he contracted tuberculosis and passed away a short time after his return home, a third son died six months later.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Paul, and six grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Samuels united with the Utopia Baptist church thirty years ago.

Dick Samuels died at his home here Wednesday night, March 10, 1943. Funeral to be held here in the Methodist Church, Friday, at 2pm. Burial in the Eureka Cemetery.
