Matthew Allen Causey, a 21-year-old from Luling, Texas, was tragically killed by a direct GSW to the head on June 22, 2020, in Pasadena, Texas. He was known to his loved ones as a gentle giant. Matthew was living in Dickinson at the time of his death. His sudden and violent death devastated his family, who described him as a kind-hearted young man with a promising future. Matthew is survived by his mother, stepfather and sister Stella, Jeff and Annastasia Hill; his father, stepmother and sisters Paul, Deeandra, Lilah and Tera Causey, his grandparents, aunts & uncles and numerous cousins who were all deeply affected by his loss.

Initially, the investigation into his death appeared to show promising leads. Authorities in Pasadena had gathered significant evidence, including a signed confession from Tallon Parks, a corroborating witness statement from Aja Gonzales, and forensic evidence—such as the suspect's fingerprints on the firearm involved and GSR from Tallon's hands. However, despite what the family believed to be a strong case, no immediate charges were filed. Tallon was released, and the case languished for over 3 years, leaving the family in anguish and fueling their efforts to seek justice publicly through the #JusticeForMatthewCausey campaign.

The family's efforts were not in vain. In 2023, after years of advocacy and a renewed legal effort, 24-year-old Tallon David Parks was indicted for manslaughter in connection with the death of Matthew Allen Causey. During the trial, due to suppression of evidence and erosion of evidence, the charges were reduced to Felony Criminal Negligence. Tallon was given 7 years probation.

Two years later and after committing numerous other felonies, 26-year-old Tallon Parks finally had his probation revoked and sentenced in connection with the death of Matthew Allen Causey. Parks was formally charged with Felony Criminal Negligence and, in February 2025, he was sentenced to five years in prison. The indictment marked a critical turning point in the case, bringing some measure of closure to a family that had fought tirelessly to hold someone accountable for Matthew's senseless death.

While the Criminal Negligence conviction does not carry the weight of manslaughter or a murder conviction that the family initially sought, the sentencing of Tallon Parks signifies legal recognition of responsibility in the death of the 21-year-old victim, Matthew Causey. The Causey family continues to remember Matthew through memorials and advocacy, honoring his memory while pushing for greater accountability and transparency in cases involving delayed justice.

Matthew was very athletic. He was loving and helpful to any and all he met. Matthew's sisters do not remember much about him as they were very young when he passed but through those who remember him, he is able to live on in their minds as well.
