Mrs. Melissa Elaine Stephens Smith, 94, resident of High Point, died July 25, 2020 at Hospice Home at High Point.

She was born June 1, 1926 in Stokes County, a daughter to the late William and Trudy Lawson Stephens. As a resident of this area most of her life, she spent her career in retail with TOBIAS and later with The Style Boutique. She was a member of Oakview United Methodist Church and later became a member of Covenant Church United Methodist where she attended until failing health made her unable. In the late 1940’s, she married Claude H. Smith, who preceded her in death on February 18, 2011. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Perry Pruette; and five brothers.

Surviving are her daughter, Regina Pruette of Clemmons; her son, Daniel “Dan” Smith of High Point; and her sister, Margaret Lawson of Lawsonville.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr. High Point, N.C. 27262.
