Frances Ann Carter was born in Arkansas in Sept. 1832. She married her first husband, Sterling Menasco, at age 15, on Feb. 3, 1848, Yell County, Arkansas. He died in 1856 in Arkansas. They had a son, James Sidney See.
About 1859, Frances married Lewis A. See, a Tennessean who had come back from the California Gold Rush. Their daughter Martha A. See was born in Arkansas in 1860. They moved to Watsonville, Calif., by 1870. Soon after, it appears that their marriage broke up.
On July 5, 1873, in Independence, Calif., Frances A. See married an Inyo County rancher named Andrew Jackson Slinkard. This marriage only lasted a short time; Andrew moved to Arizona and Frances returned to Watsonville. She appears in the 1880 census in Watsonville under the name Frances A. Slinkard (47, Ark.) with her daughter Martha See (19, Ark.) In the 1900 and 1910 census, she is listed as Frances A. See.
