Ola Ernest "Oley" Smith was born on 4 Feb 1894 at Abraham, Raleigh County, W.Va., a son of George Washington Smith Jr. and wife Emily Alice Vandall.

He died on 7 Nov 1974 in a local hospital after a long illness.
At the time of his death, Mr. Smith was a resident of Danese, Fayette County, W.Va. He was a retired Chesapeake and Ohio Railway conductor, a member of the New Salem Baptist Church, Abraham, and a member of Laurel Masonic Lodge No. 104.
Among his survivors were his wife Nellie Kincaid Smith, two sons and four daughters.
