MEADOW CREEK - Basil K. Adkins, 85, died Saturday, Oct. 6, at 12 noon, in a Hinton hospital, following a long illness.
Born Aug 3, 1905, at Pear, he was the son of the late Joseph and Alice Plumley Adkins.
Mr. Adkins was a retired C&O Railway trackman, with 40 years of service, was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham, was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way, and had lived for the past 61 years at Meadow Creek.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Smith Adkins; two sons, Hobert and Theo Adkins, both of Meadow Creek; two brothers, Cecil Adkins of Sprague, and Burman Adkins of Beaver; a sister, Annie Bragg of Bragg; four grandchildren, Elaine Harris, Debbie Bowles, Jay Adkins and Angi Adkins, and four great-grandchildren, Rachel, Tarah, Israel and Rebekah.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. in the New Salem Baptist Church at Abraham with the Revs. Jimmy Jones and Hubert Williams officiating. Burial will be in the New Salem Baptist Church cemetery.
Friends called Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the E.M. Meadows Funeral Home in Hinton, and may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Eugene Jones, Bob Richmond, Quincy Bryson, Elmer Richmond, Shelton White, and Preston Adkins.
