Ira Earles Adkins, 64, Abraham, died at his home Thursday at 8 a.m. after a seven year Illness.
He owned a sawmill and operated a grocery store for 20 yeans and was a member of he New Salem Baptist Church.
Born Oct 11, 1901, he is survived by his wife, Myrtle Smith Adkins; his father, J. L. Adkins; his stepmother, Sadie Ennis Adkins, all of Abraham; seven sons; Arnold, Crab Orchard, Russell, Shady Spring, Donald, Abraham, Milburn, Beckley, Kenneth, Salem, Va., T. Sgt. Leonard of the US Air Force in Thailand, and Steve, Charlestown; three daughters; Mrs, Franklin (Redith) Adkins, Lanark, Mrs. Jessie (Lorena) Martin, Shady Spring, and Mrs. Gene (Minnie) Bragg, Abraham; four sisters, Mrs. Nona Bennett,
Beckley, Mrs. Sadie Kincaid, Shady Spring, Mrs. Violet Ezzel, Fort Worth, Tex., and Mrs. Lena Beverly, Bradley, 32 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the New Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Oliver Tedder and the Rev. Ira Hatcher in charge. Burial will follow in the New Salem Cemetery.
The body is at the Webb and Neal Funeral Home where friends may call now and will be removed later to the home.
Pallbearers will be Donny Lee Adkins, Gary Adkins, Paul Adkins, Raye Adkins, Keith Adkins, Roger Adkins, Harold Adkins, Edsel Adkins and Denny Adkins.
Granddaughters will serve as flower girls.
