Professional Hockey Player. For seventeen seasons (1958 to 1975), he played at the left-wing position in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. During the course of his lengthy career, Shack established himself as an endearing and engaging figure to fans (remembered for his trademark cowboy hat and mustache ), contrary to his physical imposition to opposing players. He began his career with the Guelph Biltmore Mad Hatters in 1951, prior to being promoted to the NHL in 1958. He experienced four Stanley Cup titles (all with the Maple Leafs) and individually produced five hat tricks during his career. In 1,047 regular season games, he compiled 239 goals and 226 assists. After retiring from hockey, he became a familiar presence on Canadian TV commercials. He died from cancer.
