Sam Holmes and I were with him. He had fierce headaches all summer and was in the Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. We took a Pullman car on the Santa Fe railroad. I knew he was worse whin we got to Brownwood. His death was a blow to me. He was buried in the Sherwood Cemetery by Alvin, my brother." "Papa was elected County Tax-Assessor and collector (Irion County) in 1914. Myrtle and I had to help him make up the Tax Assessor's roll during the summer vacation....Papa was elected County Judge in 1922. He served two years as County Judge and six years as Tax-Assessor."
