Nora Stevens passed away at age 91 on July 24th 2020 at Autumn Hills assisted living in Bemidji Mn. She was born on July 20th 1929 to Anton and Ella Stevens of Guthrie Mn. Nora attended Elementary School in Guthrie and graduated from High School in Bemidji. She attended Bemidji State Teachers college and majored in art and Biological Science, then attended Colorado State College in Greeley Co. where she obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree. She taught High School art in Grand Marais and Grand Rapids Mn. She retired from Grand Rapids School District in 1986 and moved back to the family farm in Guthrie until 2013 when she moved to Autumn Hills assisted living in Bemidji.

She belonged to the Transparent Watercolor Society, Midwest Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society and Itasca Art Association. Nora won many awards for her watercolor paintings. She painted with and studied under many famous watercolor artists. This involved traveling all over the world painting and sketching her trips from a young age. She had a note ‘In every life some rain must fall! Must it be on a morning free to paint?’ She also enjoyed traveling with friends to the Scandinavian countries. She was a 3rd generation member of Malvik Lutheran Church in Guthrie and enjoyed being very involved with church activities.

Nora loved any kind of art project, painting, gardening, canning, her pet cats and chickens. She also loved Deer hunting and was quite a shot. She was 80 yrs. old when she shot her last deer. The yearly experience of having people over for homemade ice cream keeps going on to this day. Nora wrote books about Guthrie, family and church history. There was family history tracked back to the 1500's.

Nora is survived by Nieces Nancy (Kevin) Fuller and Nola (Russ) Nickerson.

She was preceded in death by her parents Anton and Ella Stevens and Sister Jeanette (Norman) Anderson and special friend Joe Kraker. We thank Dr. Wilcox, Dr. Chan and Sanford Hospice and Autumn Hills staff for all the love and help through this time.
